The Wawa Public Library is very excited to have received a grant from the Government of Canada, New Horizons for Seniors. This grant will allow the library to purchase additional Large Print books and Audio Books for the library. Large prints and audio books make reading easier for seniors who may have difficulty reading small print.
The focus of our grant application is to let seniors know that they are valued, talented and a resource that our community can depend on.
The programs we have planned are led, implemented and used by our Seniors.
Project #1: New Horizons Knitting Connection
The Wawa Public Library is calling on all seniors to participate in our Knitting Connection group! Our Grant allows us to purchase knitting needles, wool, and all things knitting. The projects we produce will be donated to those in need. We are meeting every Thursday from 1-3pm. Despite the weather, five knitters came out last Thursday and began their projects. Project #2: New Horizons Intergenerational Buddy Reading
Throughout the months of July and August, the Wawa Public Library is going to pair up seniors with older children with the goal of reading together, sharing opinions of a chosen book and getting to know one another through literature and a shared love of reading. Thanks to the New Horizons Grant received from the Government of Canada, we will be able to purchase a set of books that each participant will be able to keep! We ask that each pair meet at least 4-6 times throughout the summer. If you are a senior and would like to mentor a student or if you have a child who would like to participate, please contact the library at 705-856-2244 ext 291 or 290!
Project #3: New Horizons Outreach for Senior Shut-ins
With this project, we hope to reach out to the seniors in our community, who may not mobile or able to leave their home. The New Horizons for Seniors grant will allow us to buy new tablets. We would be able to show seniors how to use a tablet as well as teach them how to use the Libby App and how to access the library’s website to place holds. If you are interested in volunteering for this service or if you are or know someone who would be in need of this service, please contact the library at 705-856-2244 ext 290 or 291.

For the visually impaired, we have a Daisy Reader available for check out as well as books and magazines available on discs and a great selection of Audio Books and PLAYAWAYS.

We have two computers available for use and two workspaces if a patron would like to bring in their own laptop or tablet. Free WIFI is available.If you do not have a library card, there is a fee of $1.00/half hour for the use of a computer. We sanitize each work space after use.

The Wawa Public Library welcomes the donation of gently used DVDs and books.What we don’t catalogue we put in our book sales.Thank you in advance for supporting the library!
Remember – library membership is FREE to residents of the Municipality of Wawa and contracting communities. All you need to provide is proof of residency. That would include any document or piece of identification that states both your name and street address. Membership forms can be found on our website at wawa.olsn.ca or come in and sign up at the Wawa Public Library. All are welcome!
Our drop box is in place for all returns. Please do not deposit batteries or ink cartridges in the drop box as they may damage our books.
LIBRARY HOURS – Saturday, Sunday & Monday-closed.The library is open Tuesday-Thursday from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm, Friday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm.
