It’s an early morning report today – rain, freezing rain, slushy rain and snow has been falling throughout the area. It is freezing rain in Wawa as I begin my day. If you are traveling please give yourself more time to get to your destination. At 4 am, Schreiber Fire Department reported that there is very slick roads between Schreiber and Steele. Terrace Bay and Schreiber Fire are at the scene of a tractor trailer in the ditch with a fuel spill (km 786, between Santoy and Steele). They also comment “Use extreme caution if traveling, and watch for emergency personnel if in this area.”. This was updated 30 minutes later, “Fire Depts have been released from scene. Clean up to continue during daylight hours.”.
The Municipality has been out tending to roads already this morning, the grader has been plowing.
Weather – Periods of rain. Wind southwest 30 km/h gusting to 50. High 6. Tonight will be mainly cloudy. 60 percent chance of rain showers changing to 60 percent chance of flurries late in the evening. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low minus 6.

Freezing rain is expected overnight and Friday morning.
Periods of snow will become freezing rain after midnight tonight for regions north of Superior and on Friday morning for regions in Northeastern Ontario. Freezing rain is then expected to continue for several hours before changing to rain by noon Friday. This precipitation is the result of a low-pressure system and warm front crossing Northern Ontario tonight and Friday.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
