Members of the McDougall Energy team along with Esso Reseller Business Advisor Martyn Iles, were on hand August 22nd to make a $2,000 donation to Sault College to aid in scholarships for actively-enrolled students. As part of the Esso Community Investment Program, McDougall Energy has designated these funds towards furthering educational opportunities for students in and around the Algoma district and North Shore regions. With both Darren McDougall and Jennifer McDougall being alumni from the College the decision to support the institution was evident.
“It is a natural choice for us to continue our partnership with Sault College, and what a better way to do it then through their scholarship, bursary, and endowment program. Being Sault College alumni I can credit the remarkable instructors, facilitators, and administration in providing both Jennifer and I with an incredible education, right here at home,” said Darren McDougall President of McDougall Energy Inc. “They have provided the tools to bring out the best in their students and the growth of the College provides a great example of an institution that is bringing about active change in our community. We are proud to support in any way that we can.”
McDougall Energy has also supported the College with their $10,000 donation towards their Capital Campaign in April 2011 and was a major influencer in the funding towards the construction of the College’s newest academic facility.
The Esso Community Program was created to support initiatives that have a positive impact on the community, as well as reinforce the commitment of Esso-branded retailers and associates to the communities where their customers live. McDougall Energy and Esso are strong supporters of education in our community, with a particular focus on the skills and trade programs as it relates to best practices in health and safety.
Sault College is Northern Ontario’s largest deliverer of apprenticeship training in all of Northern Ontario, with economic spin-offs in excess of $158 million. It is also one of 24-publicly-funded colleges in the province of Ontario. With donations like this it rewards students for academic excellence.
“Sault College is extremely grateful for the ongoing support from McDougall Energy. This most recent donation to our scholarship program will benefit many students as they attend our college,” said Janice Beatty, Vice President, Corporate and Student Services, Sault College. “I am proud to accept today’s donation on behalf of Sault College and commend McDougall Energy for its commitment to student success and for helping to reinforce the importance of education and learning.”
