The OPP safely located 5-year-old Nakina and arrested mother and driver.
On January 20, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the Dryden OPP conducted a traffic stop with a westbound silver pick-up truck on Highway 17 in the Town of Dryden. The pick-up truck initially attempted to evade police but eventually later stopped. Police located 5-year-old Nakina BOYER and her mother Jeanette NIGANOBE who were passengers in the pick-up truck.
As a result of the investigation, Jeanette NIGANOBE, 47-years-of-age from Mississauga First Nation was charged with Abduction in contravention of court order – take or entice.
The driver, Richard INGRAM, 68-years-of-age Blind River was charged with:
- Abduction of a person under 14 – take or entice
- Flight from peace officer
- Speeding
- Fail to stop for police
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Both accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Dryden, and both were remanded into custody.

On January 15, 2024, the East Algoma OPP received a missing person report involving 5-year-old Nakina BOYER who had departed her residence with her mother on this date. There was a scheduled appointment they failed to attend.
On January 20, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., the OPP initiated a traffic stop and located 5-year-old Nakina BOYER and her mother Jeanette NIGANOBE who were passengers in a vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17 near the Town of Dryden.
The investigation is continuing, and more information will be provided when it becomes available.

On January 15, 2024, shortly after 10:30 a.m., the East Algoma OPP received a report of a missing person from Mississauga First Nation.
Police were advised that 5-year-old Nakina BOYER and mother departed their residence on this date. There was a scheduled appointment they failed to attend.
Nakina is described as indigenous, 4’0″ tall, 80 pounds, heavy build, brown eyes, and straight light brown hair. The family is known to frequent Batchewana First and has ties to the City of Sault Ste Marie. Mother is described as indigenous, 5’3″ tall, approximately 145 pounds, medium build, brown eyes, and long brown hair.
