Red sky at night, sailors’ delight.
Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.
We have had quite the red sunsets over the past several days, with beautiful sunny days. As I write this the sun is just breaking over Surluga Mine Hill, and it promises to be a bright, sunny day. The wind, however, will continue to be gusty.
If you wonder about the verse, despite it’s age – has it’s roots in science. From the Library of Congress, “When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically good weather will follow.”
