East Algoma OPP – Warrant leads to seizure of $10,500 in Suspected Drugs

On Tuesday July 20, 2021, shortly after 3:30 a.m., members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit, the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU),  the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the North East Region Sault Ste Marie Canine Unit and members from the East Algoma Detachment of the OPP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on Old Highway 17 within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.

 

A search of the residence led to the seizure of one loaded 9mm handgun and 17 long guns, suspected: cocaine, green and purple fentanyl, crack cocaine, Percocet pills, $4400 in Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia. The value of drugs seized is believed to be approximately over $10,500.

 

As a result of the investigation, Joshua SYLIBOY, 18 years-of-age from Scarborough was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Fentanyl, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Oxycodone, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, contrary to section 95(1) of the CC
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm contrary to section 92(1) of the CC.

 

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on July 20, 2021 and was remanded into custody.

 

Donavan MELOCHE, 21 years-of-age from Orangeville was charged with: Fail to Appear in Court, contrary to section 145(2)(b) of the CC.
