On June 17, 2018 at approximately 6:35p.m. officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marathon detachment received a report regarding a disturbance at the 10 Hemlo apartments in the town of Marathon.
Officers patrolled the area and located one of the individuals involved in the disturbance, parked in a parking lot of a local business. After further investigation it was determined that the lone occupant of the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, and in care and control of the vehicle.
As a result, the 30 year old male, Delaney MICHANO of Pic River First Nation, ON was arrested and charged with , Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Alcohol, CC253(1)(a).
Again on June 17, 2018 at approximately 8:50p.m., officers of the OPP Marathon detachment were dispatched to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 near Neys Provincial Park.
The motor vehicle fitting the description was located travelling eastbound on Highway 17 near the junction of Peninsula Road. After further investigation it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.
As a result, the 32 year old female driver, Amanda THERRIEN of Marathon, ON was arrested and charged with,
- Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, CC253(1)(a).
- Driving with More than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood, CC253(1)(b).
Both are to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Marathon on July 11, 2018 to answer to the charges.
Motorists who drive impaired by alcohol or drugs are subject to drivers licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundments, criminal records and increased insurance costs. Please drive responsibly and don’t drink and drive.
The public is encouraged to call 911 or contact police at 1-800-310-1122 whenever suspecting that a driver is impaired while operating a motor vehicle whether it is a Car, Truck, Motorcycle, ATV, Snowmobile, Boat or even an Airplane.
