At about 12:30 Superior East OPP responded to a single commercial motor vehicle collision south of Wawa. The collision site is just south of the Gamitigama road, about 45km south of Wawa. This northbound transport left the roadway taking out at least 20 guardposts before coming to rest facing south on the embankment.
The guardposts snapped but the wire held. The force and strain of the impact was enough to tear the southern concrete anchor out of the ground. The concrete anchor is at least 19 guardposts away from the first broken one, approximately 190 feet.
The driver was seen talking to OPP in a cruiser and seemed to be ok. There is sure to be some traffic delays as this transport is removed this afternoon. The entanglement in the guard wires may pose some difficulties as well as a fuel leak to be cleaned.
As temperatures continue to hover around 0C, remain aware of road conditions, and drive accordingly.
