Marathon OPP Charge Males with Theft near scene of Cattle Truck Collision

On Sunday, October 29, 2017, members of the Marathon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two males after hearing gunshots near the scene of an MVC involving a cattle truck on Saturday, October 28, 2017, west of Marathon on Highway 17, just west of the Little Pic River Bridge.

43-year-old male, Darcy COUGHLAN of Marathon, ON was charged with Theft. 43-year-old male Gordon FISHER of Marathon, ON was charged with Theft and Careless use of a Firearm. Both were released at the scene on an Appearance Notice with a court date of December 5, 201, in Marathon to answer to the charge.

Clean up continues at the scene and the highway may be closed temporally for short periods of time but should remain open to one lane while the cleanup continues. Motorists are asked to use caution and expect some delays while traveling in this area.

Police want to remind the public that the cattle is the property of the insurance company and any removal of cattle by anyone other than the authorized cleanup company is prohibited and is theft until the scene is released by the insurance company.
