Released at 9:35 a.m. The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and United Chiefs & Councils of Manitoulin (UCCM) Anishnaabe Police Service are advising members of the public in M’Chigeeng First Nation near the area of Hall Street, Mnaawnkwad Drive, and Corbiere Street to shelter-in-place. Police are actively responding to an incident involving a potentially armed individual in the area.
As a precaution, members of the public in this area are asked to take the following safety precautions:
- If you are outside, seek shelter immediately in a secure location.
- If you are inside, lock all doors and windows, and close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention.
- Do not approach or engage with anyone suspicious. Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see or encounter the possibly armed individual.
- Motorists are asked to avoid the area and should not pick up hitchhikers. If you are driving in or through this area, please proceed directly to your destination and do not make any additional stops.
- Follow any instructions provided by officers at the scene.
Individuals not currently in the affected area are requested to avoid travelling there until further notice. An increased police presence can be expected while officers continue their response and investigation.
We recognize the significant emotional impact that receiving a shelter in place can cause. The OPP is taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation. We ask all members of the public to take actions to protect their safety while police work to apprehend the individual.

Il est conseillé aux habitants de la Première Nation de M’Chigeeng se trouvant à proximité de Hall Street, Mnaawnkwad Drive et Corbiere Street de rester à l’intérieur. La police intervient actuellement suite à un incident impliquant un individu susceptible d’être armé dans le quartier.
Si vous vous trouvez dans cette zone ou à proximité, veuillez prendre les précautions de sécurité suivantes :
- Si vous êtes à l’extérieur, mettez-vous immédiatement à l’abri dans un endroit sûr.
- Si vous êtes à l’intérieur, verrouillez toutes les portes et fenêtres, et fermez les rideaux ou les stores pour ne pas attirer l’attention.
- Ne vous approchez pas et n’interagissez pas avec toute personne suspecte. Appelez immédiatement le 911 si vous apercevez ou rencontrez l’individu susceptible d’être armé.
- Les automobilistes sont priés d’éviter le secteur et de ne pas prendre d’auto-stoppeurs. Si vous circulez dans ce secteur ou le traversez, veuillez vous rendre directement à votre destination sans faire d’autres arrêts.
- Suivez toutes les directives données par les agents sur place.
Les personnes qui ne se trouvent pas actuellement dans la zone concernée sont priées d’éviter de s’y rendre jusqu’à nouvel avis. Une présence policière renforcée est à prévoir pendant que les agents poursuivent leur intervention et leur enquête.
