The Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision on Highway 11/17.
On Thursday, February 5, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m. EST, members of the Thunder Bay OPP and emergency medical services responded to a fatal collision involving two passenger vehicles on Highway 11/17 between Highway 130 and Highway 588. A 23-year-old female from Poplar Hill and a 28-year-old female from Eabametoong First Nation were pronounced deceased. Two other individuals were transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Highway 11/17 was closed for several hours between Sistonens Corners and Highway 130 while officers and the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team conducted their investigation.
