Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath has named a northern NDP MPP as one of her new deputy leaders, and assigned key critic roles to the NDP’s northern team of MPPs to help make life better for northern families.
Horwath announced critic roles for the NDP, Ontario’s Official Opposition, on Thursday.
“Our strong team of Northern New Democrats will make this government accountable to families in Northern Ontario. The NDP has a long history of fighting for Northern Ontario and the public services and jobs that families in northern communities depend on,” Horwath said.
“Having a northern deputy leader like John Vanthof who is an experienced MPP will ensure that New Democrats will connect with more people in northern and rural communities. Together with our northern team of NDP MPPs, we will continue to fight for northern health care, education and job creation.”
The NDP’s northern MPPs and their assigned roles are as follows:
Gilles Bisson (Timmins) – House Leader
Guy Bourgouin (Mushkegowuk-James Bay) – Francophone Affairs / Training, Trades and Apprenticeships
France Gélinas (Nickel Belt) – Health Care/ Chief Whip
Sol Mamakwa (Kiiwetinoong) – Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation
Michael Mantha (Algoma-Manitoulin) – Northern Development and Mines
Judith Monteith-Farrell (Thunder Bay – Atikokan) – Natural Resources and Forestry
John Vanthof (Timiskaming-Cochrane) – Deputy Leader / Agriculture and Food, Rural Development
Jamie West (Sudbury) – Labour
“Together we will work to resolve the challenges facing northern communities and give families and young people hope for a brighter future.”
