Wawa and Area Victim Services hosted their Annual Service Provider’s Forum on Tuesday, January 23rd. This networking opportunity is designed to familiarize and introduce new programs to those in our community who provide these services. Kaitlin Dube explained as the day began “There is so much value in coming together every year. This helps to strengthen our relationships.” Everyone enjoyed the presentations by each provider. New networking opportunities and new possibilities were discovered during the day as providers were made aware of new programs and opportunities.
Of special note from the participants was
- The Wellness Group (APH) that meets weekly, Thursdays at 3 Maple from 5:30 – 6 p.m.
- The ‘Safe Bed’ (APH) for men in crisis
- Project Lifesaver (OPP and WAVS)

- Wawa and Area Victim Services (Sexual Assault Program, Victim Crisis Assistance – emotional, practical and information)
- Algoma District Services Administration Board – delivers social services: child care, housing, Ontario Works and Paramedic (Emergency Medical) Services
- Lady Dunn Health Centre – North Algoma Diabetes Education Program,
- Wawa Baptist Church – Ministry of Hope
- CHADWIC Home – Accommodation and services for Women in Crisis
- Wawa Family Health Team – Nutrition Services (Dietician), ‘Healthy You’ Weight Management Program
- Wawa Regional Employment Help Centre – Personality Dimensions Workshops, Second Career, Youth Job Connection, Apprenticeships, Canada Ontario Job Grant
- Superior East Community Futures Development Corporation – Small Business Loans, Counselling, Business Resource Library, Youth Entrepreneurship Programs
- Algoma Public Health – Harm Reduction, Community Mental Health, Community Alcohol/Drug Assessment Program, Environmental Health, Sexual Health, Communicable Disease Control, Parent/Child Services, Chronic Disease Prevention, Genetics, Immunization, Youth Engagement, Injury/Substance Misuse Prevention, Oral Health. Of note was the Wellness Group that meets weekly in Wawa, and the availabilty of Narcan kits.
- Canadian Red Cross – Meals on Wheels, Transporation Services, Friendly Visiting, Telephone Assurance, Maintenance & Repair
- Algoma Family Services – counselling services to childen and youth up to the age of 18 and their families
- Superior Children’s Centre – licensed child care programs in both official languages
- Wawa Economic Development
- First Link / Alzheimer – support services for Alzheimer/Dementia and their caregivers/families
- North Algoma Health Link (Coordinated Care Planning, Health Links)
- Community Living Algoma – Services and support to children and youth with an intellectual and/or autism spectrum disorder and their families
