May 2, 2017 @ 08:56 At 8:17 a.m. the highway was reopened.   May 2, 2017 @ 05:55 OPP have tweeted that Hwy 17 is closed 35km west of Marathon due to a collision. Emergency services are on scene.  

Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police advised at 12:02 p.m. that Highway 631 between Hornepayne and White River was re-opened at 11:55 hr. Highway 17 north of Wawa is now open after a single vehicle collision which claimed the life of one and injured another.
