News Tidbits – Aquaculture is beginning to grow in Northern Ontario. With the shrimp farm ‘Good 4 U Shrimp’ in Sudbury (opened last year), yesterday a brand new project received funding from the province. $1.2 million in three businesses was announced for John O Foods in developing a freshwater caged trout aquaculture system in partnership with Sheshegwaning First Nation; Meeker Management Services is receiving $156,000 to develop its StormSafe product, which protects farmed fish from ice and storms; and Caselton Aquaculture is receiving $66,000 for new equipment.
