The Executive Committee met early November to plan for the upcoming Hamper event. Letters have been sent out asking our local businesses and individuals to support this important event once again. (Please remember, we are not the local Food Bank. The Food Bank is a separate organization that provides food on a weekly basis to those in need). The Wawa Christmas Hamper Fund is a registered, non-profit organization. We are able to issue receipts for income tax purposes for donations in excess of $10.
Thanks to many Volunteers and the generosity of /businesses and individuals, we distributed 109 hampers families and single individuals in need. The hampers consisted of either a turkey or a ham, various food items, fresh potatoes, carrots, onions, a gift card for one of four local businesses and gifts for children up to age 16. There were “extras” that the hamper recipients could also pick from, such as hats, mitts and toys.
This year, toys/gifts are needed for boys and girls ranging in age from 6-16. We have enough on hand to cover ages new born to 4. Donations in the form of a cheque, can be made payable to Wawa Christmas Hamper Fund and mailed to PO Box 257, Wawa, ON P0S 1K0
This year, the hampers are scheduled for assembly at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre on December 18th and 19th with pick up set for 20th. Volunteers are needed to help with this year’s event. To sign up and help out, please call Nancy Donald at 705-856-2781. If you are able to help with the purchase of gifts, please contact Nancy Donald to arrange for pick up/drop off.
Hamper application forms are available at the Legion Hall office on Broadway Avenue, Tuesday to Thursday, between 1-3 p.m., at the Algoma District Services Administration Board Office, 50 Broadway Avenue, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1:00 to 4:45 p.m.
The Wawa Christmas Hamper Fund Executive Members are Richard Watson, Chair, Nancy Donald, Co-Chair and Treasurer, Debbie MacDonnell, Secretary. The Executive can also be reached via email as well: [email protected].
Looking forward to another successful event.
