Safe Kids Week is an annual national awareness week developed to bring attention to predictable and preventable injuries in children. Taking place June 5 – 11, 2017, this year will focus on one of the top injury issues affecting children: active transportation injuries – including pedestrian, cycling, skateboarding/long boarding, and scootering.
In Wawa, Saturday, June 3rd, from 11 am until 2 p.m. youth and parents enjoyed a family bbq, and many displays about safety.
- SCC once again hosted the annual Safe Kid’s Day!
- Cst. Levis Brousseau & the Bike Rodeo.
- Each child who successfully completed the Bike Rodeo could enter to win one of 8 bicycles.
- Inside the MNR explained how to reduce the risk of fires around our cottages and camps.
- MNR forest fire fighting equipment.
- Algoma Public Health Unit offered strategies to protect the brain from concussions and head injuries. They also showed information on sunscreen and ways to protect from the sun.
- WFD offered goody bags, reminding everyone about fire hazards and the importance of a family escape plan.
- Eight bikes were drawn, generously donated by Algoma Power (1), Northern Credit Union (1), Brookfield Renewable (1) and the Michipicoten Volunteer Fire Association (5).
- Robin Davidson, Safe Kids Day Committee Chair holding the bucket of tickets, while Fire Chief Kevin Sabourin draws the winners.
