The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently responding to a threatening phone call complaint that was received at around 7:45 a.m. at the Elliot Lake Secondary School (ELSS) located at 303 Mississauga Avenue. The caller indicated that there was an explosive device in the school.
The OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) have been called in to assist. The East Algoma OPP is working closely with school officials to bring this event to a safe conclusion.
The school is currently closed and all occupants have been evacuated. Buses have been cancelled. For further information related to the evacuation, please contact the Algoma District School Board or Principal Rick Juuti. The OPP has closed HiIlside Drive South at Mississauga Avenue and Mississauga Avenue at Dieppe Avenue. The OPP is asking residents to please stay away from the area.
