The Wawa Community Food Bank wishes to thank the many individuals, organizations and businesses in our generous little town that have made donations during the summer and early fall months.
In the month of October, Northern Lights Ford is organizing a Let’s Scare Hunger campaign to support the food bank. Non-perishable food items/donations can be dropped off at the dealership or they will also be set up at John’s YIG on Saturday, October 28th.
We would like to express our appreciation to Josee and the staff at the Red Apple Store for the food drive campaign they held September 20 – October 5th. A total of $2,526 was raised. Also, a huge thank you to everyone who donated to help make the food drive such a success!
Since we operate on the generosity and goodwill of the community to help put food on the tables of those in need, food drives are incredibly helpful when it comes to filling our shelves. If you’re interested in running one but not sure where to start, don’t hesitate to get in touch. It could even be a fun competition with another local business!
Our appreciation and sincere thanks are extended to the following businesses, corporations, families and individuals who have supported the food bank and its clients, with monetary donations, grocery items, or pet supplies: AJ’s Pizza, Alisha Allin, Susan Blatenszky, Bev Boyd, Rochelle Brown, Angela Caleizzi, Dr. Cotterill, Jake Duggan and Sarah Corely, Lynn Dee Eason, Justine Glover and the Wawa Community Garden, Nancy Houle, Holly Hughes, In Memory of Brian Breton, Anita Kraly, Monique Kryszewski & Jean Meloche, Missinabie Cree, Naturally Superior Adventures, Carol Pepper, Melanie Pilon/Jacques Bernier, Steve & Linnea Rothwell, Nathalie Scully, Sam Shorey, St. Augustine French Immersion School, Superior Children’s Centre, Wawa Public Library, Marilyn Steinburg, and Terry Switzer.
Thank you to the Cadets from the 155 Borden Gray G.C. Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Sault Ste. Marie who hosted a wake-a-thon in June at the Armoury in the Sault. Their admission for the night was non-perishable food items to be donated to the WCFB. Also, thank you to Laura Moffat for delivering the items. In July, Jax and Mia Moore (with the help of Grandma Judy) had a lemonade stand and purchased items for the food bank with the money they made. Our sincerest thanks to the Rotary Club of Wawa for their financial donation earmarked for our annual rent and telephone expenses.
We would also like to thank the following individuals and/or businesses for their continued support: Circle K, John’s Your Independent Grocer and Red Apple Store with product purchases, Vishal and Sima Patel of Subway for their contribution of bread products, Daniel Walker and JJAM FM for mentioning us daily and Wagging Tails Kennel for ensuring our clients have pet food for their animal friends.
We also recognize of all the anonymous donors who make monetary donations and provide bags of useful items dropped in our donation box at 96 Broadway Ave., or those who make a payment to our account at John’s Independent Grocer.
Did you know that the food bank is ran by unpaid volunteers who spend countless hours each week donating their time to ensure the operation runs smoothly? We would like to thank all our hard-working volunteers: Debbie Banks, Jackie Blanchet, Frank Burekle, Beverly Boyd, Ann Carruthers, Jenn Fraser, Magan Gagnon, Leo & Pat Lavoie, Debby Greely-Hogan, Norma and Perry Kauk, Paulette Leadbetter, Renee Metzner, Kaireen Morrison, Joe Opato, Ulo Pihelgas, Jeanette Pike, Stephanie Scheuermann, Dyanne Smart, Andy Stevens and Debra Tomas-Avis.
As always, we appreciate all non-perishable items as many small donations add up. We appreciate every can, box, or package that comes in. Monetary donations can also be accepted via e-transfer, mail or in person. Items that we regularly try to stock and provide are peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, canned soup, Kraft Dinner, canned vegetables and fruit, pork & beans and canned tuna and salmon.
Many thanks to all the donors and volunteers who have helped make life a little easier for others in our community. Our sincere apologies to anyone we may have missed.
