2017 Festival of Lights – A Bright Success

Dec 20, 2017 @ 08:58

The 2017 Festival of Lights was a bright and beautiful success amazing the organizers! In the community of Wawa over 344 homes were decorated, and 44 entered the competition. Businesses were not to be left out with the BIA showing off their new decorations down Mission Road and Broadway Avenue, and 6 businesses taking up the challenge.

A bus tour was organized and despite it starting early every bus was packed. Next year, organizers stated that they would have to organize a larger school bus.

While waiting for their seat on a bus, everyone was invited to have a cup of hot chocolate, cinnamon bun, Timbits, cookies or a cupcake. Brian Lachine also played a wandering minstrel, playing Christmas tunes on his guitar throughout the lobby.

At 8:30 the last bus interrupted its tour and came back to the MMCC for the lighting of the two pine trees that flank the Community Centre. Mayor Ron Rody gave his best wishes to the community and gave his thanks to the organizers who revived the Festival of Lights!

Brian Lachine gave “A big thank you to Mayor Ron Rody for hosting, Judy Moore for her cinnamon buns, Tim Hortons for the Timbits, Andy Stevens for the Hot Chocolate, Mary Anne Pearson for the cookies and Rose Ann Turyk for the cookies and cupcakes.”

It is very exciting to see all the Chistmas decorations in our community. From the new BIA lights to the lit pine trees at the MMCC, and a new blanket of snow, our little town is looking quite pretty!
