Christian Synnett, a grade 12 student at École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau), had the opportunity to join fellow students Anik and Brielle from ÉSC Champlain (Chelmsford) and participate in Level 1 of the credited dual recognition program as “Electrician (Construction and Maintenance)” offered at Collège Boréal.
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) allows students to complete apprenticeship training while in pursuing their high school studies. This enriching experience allowed them to complete the first part of the theoretical training necessary to practice the profession of electrician. Here are some of the skills students develop: learning to read, interpret and examine schematics, install, maintain and repair wiring networks, and choose, install, maintain and troubleshoot lighting systems and electrical distribution systems.
