Michael Mantha, NDP MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin released the following statement regarding the forest fires in Northeastern Ontario:
“All my thoughts are with the people in our region who are being evacuated and with the emergency crews that are working hard to keep everyone safe. I know our communities are strong and can overcome this stressful time. People should remain calm and keep looking for updates and new evacuation alerts.”
There were 60 active fires as of yesterday, 28 of which are not under control.
It is imperative that we stay at a safe distance, especially with emergency crews and water bombers travelling in the region.
Many Ontario residents have reported smoke drift in their communities. Smoky conditions are expected to continue as a number of fires remain active throughout the northeast region until weather patterns and fire activity change.
