The 2017 Spring By Hand Festival was held May 5th and 6th with several of the usual suspects, and a few new vendors. This is a long-standing event in the Wawa Community, and one that is considered a herald of spring.

- Suzan Love ‘Dragonoria’ – author and illustrator, Suzan brought her first book, and her greeting cards and boxes to Wawa. A tale of mysteries and friendships it helps youth to understand that being different is okay.

- Jim Sanders & Flood Mud Pottery – a gorgeous display of pottery, functional and decorative.

- Maria Reid – not only is she the organizer behind the scenes, she does beautiful placemats, tea cozys and other sewn craft.

- Laura Mitchell ‘Blue Canoe Creations’ – beautiful jewellery, but best known for her teething necklaces.

- Ron Hale ‘Big Water Pottery” – reaching out and expanding his grasp of pottery with beautiful snapshots of Lake Superior vistas.

- Will Barner ‘Twisted Jewellery’ – beautiful jewellery, but this year he offered these neat LED lights.

- George Karasek – a trapper and retired railway man, George spends his summer gardening, then pickling his beets, and making salsa. Then during the dead of winter, he carves these beautiful animals and birds.

- Sandy Blatensky – Sandy creates plastic canvas homes, baskets and other really neat items.

- Rachel Presse ‘Rachel’s Weaving” – from Chapleau Rachel’s hand loomed blankets bring back to life a traditional French-Canadian craft.

- Linda Petersen – Traditional First Nation beadwork, quilled birch bark boxes and barrettes were all hand made by Linda.

- Lion’s Club – not a crafter, but they were offering information and tickets for their ‘Carns’ for Mother’s Day.

- Taylor’s Custom Metal Pieces – Taylor uses scrap metal to create these beautiful roses. You can find him on Facebook.

- Sandra ‘Sandy’ Lowe offered both her books, ‘Led by Grace’ and ‘The Ley of the Land’. A talented author she weaves her meditations into her books offering a unique look at life’s journey.

- Frank McRae – Frank works his wood in an ancient craft derived from marquetry known as ‘intarsia’. He also creates working heavy equipment – great heirloom toys.

- Allyson & Haley Fortin ‘A & H Hobbies’ – creating very unusual and neat crafts priced for any pocketbook. The tic-tac-toe bag is a great idea to keep in your purse to play with your child or grand child.

- Scroller Sam – beautiful lathe turned pens, antler carving for pendants, earrings and sculptured.
