Students from École secondaire Saint-Joseph in Wawa registered in the Religious Studies class recently studied Hinduism, its celebrations and traditions. Led by their teacher Ms. Maryssa Kozlowskyj, they were able to celebrate Diwali “The Festival of Lights”, which is the most important holiday in Hinduism and in India.
After learning about the history of this festival, the students proceeded with henna tattooing (Mehndi), created Diya lamps and drew rangolis in the Hindu tradition. Afterwards, the students tasted sweet desserts. On the fifth day of Diwali, according to tradition, students wrote messages of love to their brothers and sisters for the holiday of Bhaj Dooj. The students took great pleasure in recreating this festival in order to better understand Hinduism!
