On March 31, 2020 at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Northeast Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and the Superior East OPP Detachment executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on Churchill Avenue in Wawa.
During the search, officers located approximately $1,700 in cash, as well as quantities of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine and oxycodone. The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $3,000. In addition to drugs, officers also located the following prohibited weapons:
• Handheld crossbow
• Expandable baton
• Conductive energy weapon (CEW)
As a result of the investigation, three people were arrested and charged.
Blake Komarniski, 36 years of age from Wawa, was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
• Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code (CC) – (Three Counts),
• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC,
• Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC – (Seven Counts), and
• Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, contrary to section 10(2) of the Cannabis Act (CA).
The accused was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
Krista Stone, 21 years of age from Wawa, was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
• Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC – (Three Counts), and
• Possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, contrary to section 10(2) of the CA.
Colton Valliere, 26 years of age from Wawa, was charged with:
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance – other drugs, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
• Fail to comply with recognizance, contrary to section 145(3) of the CC – (Two Counts).
The remaining two accused parties were released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 8, 2020 in Wawa.
