On Tuesday December 19, 2017 at approximately 11:15 pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East (Wawa) Detachment responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision located on Highway 17 approximately 45 kilometres south of Wawa in the Brimacombe Township District of Algoma.
The lone male driver of the northbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) are assisting with this investigation.
Highway 17 is open to all traffic.

Update: #Algoma #HWY17 WB Trappers Trail- Lake Superior Prov Pk, lane and WB shoulder remains blocked in the Gargantua area due to a vehicle fire.

OPP Communications has tweeted “Hwy17 CLOSED in both directions approximately 50 km south of #Wawa due to a collision. Reopening time unknown.”
