On Tuesday December 19, 2017, at approximately 11:15 pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East (Wawa) Detachment with the assistance of the Algoma District Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and the Wawa Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 approximately 45 Kilometres south of Wawa.
The driver of the motor vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene, he has been identified as 55-year-old Paul Kirby from Georgetown, Ontario.
Highway 17 has been reopened. The OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) continue to assist with the investigation.
