This morning in Sault Ste. Marie the Lake Superior Water Trail and the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail opens. A two sited-celebration includes a paddle tour of the Gros Cap Cliffs on the Lake Superior Water Trail and Trans Canada Trail and ceremonies at Gros Cap and the Machine Shop.
The Lake Superior Water Trail is a 1,000 km water path along the north shore of Lake Superior, offering paddlers 16 access points between Gros Cap Marina Park (Sault Ste. Marie) to Thunder Bay’s Fisherman’s Park.
The Great Lakes Waterfront Trail is a significant link in the Trans Canada Trail, also known as the Great Trail, a 24 000 km (15 000 mile) trail system from ocean to ocean to ocean.
The Michichipicoten River is the closest point on these water trails.
