The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is inviting students across the Algoma region to join in the Hour of Code 2021 and complete a one-hour coding activity during Computer Science Education Week from December 6th– 12th for a chance to win some prizes.
The Hour of Code, organized by the non-profit Code.org and over 100 others, is a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st-century success. Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but only 51% of all high schools teach computer science.
To sweeten the pot for Algoma students, the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is sponsoring Hour of Code as an Up for the Challenge event, awarding prizes to two randomly selected entries:
- Classes: One randomly selected class entry will be awarded a Pizza Party.
- Individual Students: One randomly selected student entry will be awarded with a $50 Amazon gift card
In addition to the available prizes above, all selected winners’ submitted photos will be featured on our website, social media accounts, and in our newsletter.
Students and teachers can get started by checking out the Up for the Challenge page on the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre’s website and clicking on the Hour of Code challenge where they will find all the resources needed to participate.
