Wawa Community Food Bank Update – Spring 2017

Jun 6, 2017 @ 10:17

Wawa Community Food Bank wishes to acknowledge the support received from a variety of sources over the last few months.

We sincerely thank Martin Doyle for providing oral hygiene products.

Also, thank you to Brenda Ouellette and the Wawa BIA for the Canadian Tire gift cards.  These will be used to purchase items for the plots at the Community Garden and for cleaning supplies. The staff and management of Canadian Tire have also donated vegetable bedding plants for this purpose. Your generosity is appreciated.

The curling team of Mark Leschishin, Ron Hale, Adam Cariccatto and Jeff MacLary donated their prize money from the men’s bonspiel. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Saint Joseph’s French Immersion School provided a case of apples for our clients. Fresh fruits or vegetables are always a very welcome addition to our offerings.

The junior and senior kindergarten class of Lorraine Samson, Monique Gendron and Marie France Sylvain from Ecole Saint Joseph made a visit to our location several weeks ago. With their proceeds from a fall lemonade sale, the students went grocery shopping and personally selected items appropriate for a food bank. This hands-on exercise reinforces the intended lesson of giving to others. Thank you so much.

The nursing staff of Lady Dunn Hospital contributed a collection of non-perishables which were provided for us as part of their Nursing Week community service mandate. Thank you to all and to Lauren St. Jules for organizing and delivering these products.

We also thank the donor of multiple cases of facial tissues. Please accept our apologies for not catching the source of this generosity.

Once more we reinforce our appreciation to the Wawa Family Health Team for the outreach provided at the food bank site. A diabetes testing and information clinic is offered the second Wednesday of each month from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.; a nursing clinic is available the fourth Wednesday and the assistance of a social worker is offered the second, third and fourth Wednesday. Please note that these services are not restricted to food bank clients but are available to anyone in the community at these times on a drop-in basis. Enter through the main doors at 96 Broadway Avenue, in the former medical building across from First United Church.
