There was one new confirmed fire in the Northeast Region by late afternoon on September 29. Cochrane 21 is being observed at 0.1 hectares and is located on the south side of the Albany River, approximately 9 kilometres west of Fort Albany First Nation. The fire hazard is low to moderate across the Northeast Region.

There were no new forest fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the afternoon of September 29. At the time of this update there were no active fires in the region. The forest fire hazard is is mainly low across the Northwest Region with areas of moderate and high hazard conditions in the Kenora sector.

SSM’s PUC Services Inc. received an award in the category of worker safety during the first “virtual” Annual Meeting and Ontario Electrical Safety (ESA) Awards on September 24th. This award, “recognized PUC’s dedication to keep workers and the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Efforts made by PUC at the beginning of the pandemic to provide community members and fellow workers with hand-made masks were most notably acknowledged by the ESA. These masks were sewn and distributed to community members and fellow workers at a time when they were not readily available. As a result, local residents and PUC crews providing essential services were able to stay safe when they could not maintain physical distancing.”

Adalsteinn (Steini) Brown, Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of Ontario Health, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, will hold a media briefing on COVID-19 provincial modelling at 10 a.m. at Queen’s Park.
