SE OPP Hornepayne – Investigation continues into August 27thfatal collision

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a single-vehicle collision near Hornepayne in Algoma District that has resulted in a fatality.

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, at approximately 9:50 a.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the OPP responded to reports of a collision involving a single passenger vehicle on Highway 631, approximately 10 kilometres south of Hornepayne.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 79-year-old from Hornepayne, was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

An OPP Technical Collision Investigator and a Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist Superior East OPP with the investigation. Highway 631 was closed for several hours to facilitate the emergency response and investigation, and it has since reopened.

The investigation remains ongoing.
