Sincere condolences to Colleen, Emily and Michael. Mike was a unique guy and I feel fortunate that I knew him personally and was advantaged by living next door for 22 years. Ken and Mike both worked for Domtar, although not in the same time period, so they always had something to talk about over the back fence. Mike was generous, kind and always offered to help when he saw a need. In the last few years I’ve seen him blowing snow for hours despite pain. Even had him yell out his window “Leave it Shirley I’ll get it.” He could definitely be called a ‘dog person’. If Mike was just sitting out on his step, back or front there would be no stopping my dog from racing over to him with kisses and hugs, dog style. Mowing the grass was now something I had to do and of course had trouble getting the mower going, once again Mike came to the rescue, “You need to choke the shit out of these engines Shirley.” I’ll forever hear his voice telling me that. I asked him many ‘how to’ questions and he always answered in a respectful way. From time to time we would be gifted his tasty canned salmon with explanations how he did this batch. It was always good when he could get on his Harley and spend a day enjoying the freedom of biking down the highway, especially great when he had Colleen on the back. I just hope that where ever he is he finds people he can help and have zesty conversations with. It’s his nature. My family and I will definitely miss you Mike.
Grace and I send our sincere condolences to Colleen and the entire Abbott family.
Although our exposure to Mike was somewhat limited, he demonstrated over the years, unselfish acts of kindness and concern for our mother and our family. He watched over our mom as she struggled in her final years. Mike was always vigilant and caring.
May the sun be in your face and the wind be in your hair! Ride on!!
Rest in Peace.
RIP Mike. Truthfully I can’t find the words to use as I think of all that Mike added to my Life. Colleen, Emily and Micheal please accept my sincerest sympathy and the tremendous Love I feel for you all. Hugs
