November 4, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces
In the days following the tragic incident on October 17, 2026, at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has remained focused on supporting the recovery of injured personnel and providing support to their families.
The CAF continues to work closely with medical professionals, provincial health authorities, and support networks to facilitate the ongoing care and recovery of the 25 injured CAF members who remain hospitalized. As of November 4, 2026, 14 of the personnel injured in the incident have been released from hospital.
Following careful medical assessment and recommendations from medical professionals, four hospitalized members have been transferred to healthcare facilities closer to their home communities in British Columbia and Ontario, where they can continue receiving the medical care they need while being closer to family and loved ones.
All members and their families will continue to be provided with the full range of CAF supports available, including assigned Designated Assistants who serve as a vital direct liaison for members and their families.
The CAF is deeply grateful to Acute Care Alberta, the provincial health services of Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario; and all federal, regional, and municipal partners. The professionalism, compassion, and expertise of all healthcare professionals and all military and civilian support personnel who have cared for our people and their families since the incident have been invaluable throughout this tremendously difficult period.
Recovery will look different for each injured person and their family. Some may face a long journey ahead, but they will not face it alone. Ongoing support and services remain available to injured personnel, their families, and all CAF members as they continue to navigate the effects of this tragedy.

This saddens me so _ the necessity of such exercises saddens me even more.
My own father was part of many such trainings; I never expected such endangerment.
I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of these men, who are experiencing
this astonishing loss. I hold you in my heart.
