LAWRENSON, Elizabeth (Betty)

1932 – 2022

Peacefully after a short stay at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on March 11, 2022. Dear wife of Bernard for 66 years. Loving mother to David (Karen) and Stephen (Cindy). Cherished grandmother to Justin (Natalie), the late Lisa (Cale), Natalie (Chris) and Michael. Great grandmother to Parker and Kylie.

Betty immigrated to Wawa in December 1964 from St. Helens, Lancashire, England. With two young children in tow, they were greeted with a spectacular display of Wawa’s wonderful and breathtaking snow and cold weather.

Betty loved Wawa and her home of 40 years on Superior Avenue. Betty had several careers in Wawa: Manager at Eatons catalogue sales, and a long stint at Hudson’s Bay before retiring to be a homemaker. Golf became her passion along with her friendship to her many Wawa cronies. She had a lust for travelling, and was an avid knitter with many of her dolls still cherished by wee ones.

Betty spent her latter years in Kanata, Ontario continuing her love for golfing, making many new friends, and being the best friend to her husband.

Betty will be cremated and laid to rest near her granddaughter Lisa, in Ottawa. If desired, donations can be made to the Canadian Cystic Foundation which Betty supported.

Memories of Betty at the golf course abound. She was a force to be reckoned with, and was quick to explain the rules as they were then in the 1990s when she played on a team with Angie Isosaari and Audrey Dereski. My team of Jane Shamess and Aline Haman usually played with them early in the afternoon, and we were quite a mixed bag. It’s great to look back on those days and remember the good times. Sorry to learn that Betty is gone, sincere sympathy to Bernie and family from Wawa.

  5. I was very saddened to hear of Betty’s passing. A very kind and caring lady. Always enjoyed seeing her and Bernie when we could make it to the annual golf tournament. Condolences to Bernie, David and Stephen.
