There were no new fires discovered in the Northeast region by the mid-afternoon on June 17. With three active fires across the region: Sudbury 20, Kirkland Lake 1, and Pembroke 8. The fire hazard is mostly high, with areas near Temiskaming Shores and Elliot Lake showing an extreme hazard today.

There were no new fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the mid-afternoon of June 17. Red Lake 8 grew to 90 hectares before receiving some rain which has reduced its activity. It is not under control and is located 20 kilometres northeast of Poplar Hill. Seven crews have been assigned to this fire. The forest fire hazard is mainly high across the region. A low to moderate hazard exists in the far north of Red Lake, Sioux Lookout districts as well as most of the Nipigon district. There is an area of extreme hazard in the southern half of Red Lake district.

 

Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health, Rhonda McMichael, Assistant Deputy Minister, Population Health Initiatives, Mike Maddock, Assistant Deputy Minister, Ontario Digital Service, and Neil Littlejohns, Senior Product Manager, Ontario Digital Service, will hold a technical briefing on the province’s enhanced case and contact management strategy at 11:30 a.m.

Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, to make an announcement at 1 p.m.
