Nipigon OPP – Bad Parking Leads to Impaired Driving Charge

On September 18, 2026 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon Detachment stopped to check on a parked vehicle resulting in one person being criminally charged with impaired operation.

At approximately 5:00 a.m., members were on general patrol when a vehicle was observed parked in a poor location on Highway 17 near Camp 81 Road. The female driver appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of a gray Chevrolet Blazer. Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) was conducted and resulted in grounds for impairment. The driver was transported to the hospital to provide blood samples.

As a result of the investigation, Shayleen DOGGETT, 30 years of Thunder Bay has been criminally charged under the Criminal Code with:

•   Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs

Police are awaiting the results of the blood testing. The accused was released and is to appear in Nipigon Court at a later date.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it in emergency situations.
