Nipigon OPP – Crash Notification leads to Impaired Charges

On September 16, 2026, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipigon Detachment responded to an cell phone crash notification resulting in one person being arrested and criminally charged with impaired operation.

At approximately 10:00 p.m., members were dispatched to an crash notification at the Nipigon Marina in the Town of Nipigon. Officers observed a cell phone on the ground near a vehicle and spoke to the male driver who was showing signs of impairment. Officers administered the Alcohol Screening Device (ASD) which registered a Fail. The driver was arrested and taken to the Nipigon Detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, James CLARK, 27 years from Gull Bay First Nation has been criminally charged with offences under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act:

• Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
• Failure to comply with release order
• Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
• Novice Driver – B.A.C above zero

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
