News Tidbits:

Algoma Highlands Wild Blueberry Farm and Winery has made the decision that there are not enough nice berries to run the strawberry upick. However, if you have small children and want to visit – go ahead and the berries the kids pick are free. Adults can enjoy a glass of wine, and sample their delicious products.

Forest Fires – There are currently 21 personnel assisting the province of Quebec with their fire situation. Some personnel have returned to Ontario following their deployment. There are four Manitoba waterbombers and two birddogs aircraft assisting the province of Ontario this week.

There were two new forest fires confirmed by late afternoon on July 10, both are in the Bancroft area. Yhere are twenty-one active fires across the region. Three fires are being held, twelve are under control and one is being observed, with five fires that are not yet under control. The fire hazard varies from low to moderate for most areas west of Espanola and north of Timmins this afternoon due to recent precipitation, while areas south of Timmins and east of Espanola are maintaining a high to extreme hazard this afternoon. A few pockets within the Cochrane sector are also presenting a high forest fire hazard.

There were five new forest fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the mid-afternoon of July 10. There are 27 active forest fires in the Northwest Region. Ten are not under control, eight are under control, three are being observed and six are being held. The forest fire hazard is moderate to high in the southern half of the region and low to moderate in the northern half of the region.
