Members of the Ontario Provincial Police North West Region Crime Unit and Treaty Three Police Service under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are investigating human remains found on May 15, 2019 in an area near the community of Big Island First Nation.
Police are working with the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services – Forensic Anthropology (OFPS) and Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) in identifying the remains through a post mortem.
Members of the Treaty Three Police Service, OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Forensic Identification Unit, Rainy River District Crime Unit as well as OPP Aviation Services have been engaged to assist in the investigation.
