Weather –  Today, a few rain showers changing to flurries this morning. Local blowing snow this afternoon. Snowfall amount 2 cm. Wind southwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming northwest 30 gusting to 50 near noon. Temperature falling to minus 7 this afternoon. Tonight will be mainly cloudy with 30 percent chance of flurries. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light this evening. Low minus 13.

Marine – Gale warning in effect.Wind southwest 25 knots increasing to west 35 early this morning then veering to northwest 35 late this morning. Wind diminishing to northwest 30 this afternoon and to northwest 20 overnight. Wind diminishing to northwest 15 Wednesday morning then backing to west 15 near noon Wednesday. Wind increasing to west 20 Wednesday afternoon and to west 25 Wednesday evening. Waves 2 metres building to 3 to 4 near noon then subsiding to 2 near midnight. Waves subsiding to one Wednesday morning then building to 2 Wednesday evening.

Canada continues to try and make smoking less attractive. Health Canada’s internal study has revealed that the most effective way to reduce smoking is to raise the price by raising the amount of taxes on a pack of cigarettes.
