News Tidbits – Larry Cond of Desbarats is a very happy man these days. He won in the Daily Grand. His July 13th draw ticket was purchased in White River, and Larry opted for the lump sum prize of $500,000.

There is a deepening crisis in Ontario’s long-term care. Wait times for long-term care in the northeast are expected to get longer with Lady Isabelle Nursing Home in Trout Creek has had their license revoked. There are now four long-term care facilities in Ontario that no longer accept new residents:

  • Caressant Care, Woodstock,
  • Bella Senior Care Residence, Niagara Falls
  • Cedar wood Lodge, Sault Ste. Marie, and
  • Lady Isabelle Nursing Home, Trout Creek

There are 66 long-term care residents in Lady Isabelle that now looking for a ‘bed’.

CBC is reporting that “the other 1,800 people on the waiting list for the 5,052 beds across northeastern Ontario will be essentially bumped to accommodate those from Lady Isabelle.”

Did you know that Pancake Bay Provincial Park is offering the use of two new specialized wheelchairs? These wheelchairs are designed to travel over the sand, and one of them is made to actually go into the water. The DeBug Beach Wheelchair, with fat grey wheels, is meant to be used on the beach; while the Mobi-Chair Floating Beach Wheelchair adds floatation devices to allow it to go into the water.
