With permission from Ontario Provincial Police, Wawa-news drove to Alona Bay to see the damage that occurred this morning. Highway 17 has been washed out since early this morning and will remain closed until repairs can be made. Estimates are at this time of at least 24 hours.
There are actually two washouts. The one is at Alona Bay right at the south end of the lookout. The second is a kilometre or so south of the Alona Bay lookout.

- Alona Bay walking back up the hill, the amount of debris and sediment is from the highway to the bush line.
- The water has eaten underneath the highway where the culvert is, and then overflowed, flowing to the Alona Bay Lookout.

- Creek flowing from Alpha and Queminico Lakes – very full.
- Top of the Alona Bay hill, water from the south side rockcuts also covered the highway here.
- Water was still flowing over the rockcut at 3:30 this afternoon.
