From the Branch – May 3

May 3, 2017 @ 07:54

So there went April and besides Easter and some extra snow nothing much to talk about.

Now here comes May and look that BIG stuff to think about and first of all naturally the 72nd. anniversary of the end of WW2 in Europe. Looking at the news from overseas they are really getting ready for 2020 and the 75th. One with the slogan Freedom up to 2020. At many remembrances, they have also German Wehrmacht veterans invited at the battle of Arnhem and other remembrances.

On May 4th. There will be evening remembrances in Holland at the Canadian War cemitaries were school children once again will place lighted candles before each gravestone. And this way they teach the kids about all these heroes who gave their life so they can enjoy their years growing up in peace,

But on May 5th. There will be bands playing and ceremonies in Wageningen, Arnhem And Apeldoorn and even in the smallest village the festivities will be going all day.

And I am sure that any Canadian veteran who can still make it there will be honoured and treated like a real live hero.

At the Branch there will be elections for a new slate of officers and executive committee at the membership meeting on May 11th.

So we urge you to attend at this special biannual event.

And anyone who wants to get involved in a really special way to serve the community while remembering their Parents or Grandparents who served Canada proudly NOW is the time to join. And get ready for the 75th. Anniversary  in 2020 and help to organize and take part in this event.

Things are still going well at the Branch and Saturdays cribbage is still a good event to spend a Saturday afternoon with friends and beat them at the GAME.

And things are already getting organized for the Legion Golf Tournament. So watch for more news about this main event in June.

Johnnies mother observed him taking a measuring tape with him to bed every night and she asked him why he did this.

So he repliedMom I want to know how LONG I sleep!”

To all our Comrades sick at home, in the hospital or nursing homes You are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish you well.
