NW Forest Fire Region Update – August 25

Updated: August 25, 2026 at 6:14 p.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT).

No new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by early evening of Aug. 25.

There were 2 fires confirmed in the evening hours of Aug. 24, following yesterday’s update.

  • Nipigon 104 (NIP104) was located east of Deep Lake, approximately 13 kilometres north of Schreiber. The fire has been called out at 0.1 hectares.
  • Nipigon 105 (NIP105) is located near the east shore of McIvor Lake, approximately 9 kilometres west of Cameron Falls. The fire has been called out at 0.2 hectares.

At the time of this update there are 64 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of these fires, 3 are not under control, 4 fires are being held, 12 fires are under control and 45 fires are being observed.

Fires of note

The Rinker Lake Complex – Thunder Bay 36 (THU036), Dryden 34 (DRY034), Dryden 35 (DRY035)

  • The Perin Incident Management Team transitioned command over ongoing fire operations at the Rinker Complex (Thunder Bay 36, Dryden 34 and Dryden 35) to the Thunder Bay Fire Management Headquarters on Aug. 25. For ongoing fire information on these fires, contact the Northwest Region fire information officer at 1-888-258-8842.
  • Wildland fire activity across the Complex remains low.
  • Fire Operations staff and FireRangers from Ontario and Mexico are being supported by helicopters equipped with belly tanks and buckets.
  • THU036 is currently measuring 301,240 hectares and remains not under control.
  • DRY034 is currently measuring 45,800 hectares and remains not under control.
  • DRY035 is currently measuring 30,158 hectares and remains not under control.

Atikokan Cluster – Fort Frances 13 (FOR013), Fort Frances 14 (FOR014), Fort Frances 15 (FOR015)

  • After several weeks of fire suppression in the Atikokan Cluster of Fires, the Brown Incident Management Team will demobilize their Atikokan-based incident command post and transition command of the Fort Frances 13, 14 and 15 fires to the Fort Frances Fire Management Headquarters on Wednesday, Aug. 26.
  • Low fire behaviour has been observed in recent days.
  • This will be the final update that will include the Atikokan Cluster among the fires of note. For ongoing fire information on these fires, contact the Northwest Region fire information officer at 1-888-258-8842.
