News Tidbits – It is raining this morning in Wawa. Normally, one would hate to see rain, but hopefully, the rain will help to dampen the forest fires that have been burning since early July. Most of NE Ontario remains under a Restricted Fire Zone, with no open burning allowed.

Lake Superior Provincial Park has been officially designated as a Dark Sky Preserve by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada! They will be celebrating this upcoming August long-weekend with a Dark Sky Weekend with all kinds of special events.

The Huron Central Railway (HCF) task force held a meeting yesterday in the Soo with stakeholders (businesses, communities and First Nations). This was to update and help them understand what could be accomplished over the next five years if they chose to help the railway stay afloat.

Algoma Public Health (APH) has issued a swimming advisory for Beech Beach and Big Point Park located on St. Joseph Island, Ontario, east of Sault Ste. Marie. Water samples are taken from Beech Beach and Big Point Park every week.  Test results of samples taken on July 23, 2018 contained high levels of bacteria. Algoma Public Health encourages the public to visit our website to view a map of the beaches sampled and current warnings or postings.
