The Ontario government is investing $500,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to help the Township of Dubreuilville build a new playground. As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and build stronger northern communities, this funding will bring a new and accessible play structure to Dubreuilville, creating a fun, modern and safe space where families can gather, stay active and play.
“Every child deserves a safe, welcoming place to play, grow and create lasting memories,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “This investment will give Dubreuilville children and families a modern, accessible playground where they can stay active, connect and enjoy the outdoors, helping build a stronger northern community.”
The Township of Dubreuilville is using NOHFC funding to replace end-of-life playground equipment at its only children’s playground. Most existing structures, including swings, slide, and climbing frame, are more than 40 years old and no longer meet safety or accessibility standards. The project will also improve overall safety by re-leveling the site and installing non-slip rubber safety surfacing in the playground.
“We are incredibly thankful for this investment in Dubreuilville,” said Shelley B. Casey, CAO-Clerk for the Township of Dubreuilville. “Through this partnership, we are creating a welcoming recreation space that will enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors alike.”
“Today is a great day for Dubreuilville, its residents and visitors,” said Bill Rosenberg, member of Provincial Parliament for Algoma – Manitoulin. “This recreational space will ensure future generations will have a place they can continue to enjoy. Thank you to everyone involved in making investments in the community possible and to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for supporting this grant.”
The Ontario government is prioritizing investments through the NOHFC that protect northern industries and jobs, mitigate the impacts of U.S. tariffs and trade disruptions and secure new opportunities for the long-term prosperity of Northern Ontario. The renewed focus is boosting competitiveness and ensuring the North remains a leader in Ontario’s economy. This new direction is in addition to the province’s increased investment, bringing the NOHFC’s annual budget to a total of $110 million. Together, these initiatives will benefit communities of all sizes, both rural and urban, including Indigenous communities.
