Algoma Family Services – Strengthening Supports for Pregnant Individuals and Families Across Algoma

Families expecting a baby or raising young children in Algoma will now be able to access prenatal nutrition and early childhood supports through their local EarlyON Child and Family Centres, bringing services closer to the communities where families already gather, learn, and connect.

This change follows the April 2026 renewal of the Community Action for Prenatal and Child Health Program (CAPCHP), coordinated by Algoma Family Services in partnership with the Algoma Cooperative Children’s Services coalition, the program provides services and supports for children from birth to age six and their families across the Algoma District.

Earlier this spring, delivery of Prenatal Nutrition services under CAPCHP transitioned from Algoma Public Health to EarlyON Centres throughout the district. Families will continue to receive the same trusted programs and supports without interruption, while benefiting from improved local access through the EarlyON network.

What this means for families:

• Prenatal nutrition and early childhood supports are now offered at EarlyON Child and Family Centres across Algoma
• Families can continue to access nutrition supports, prenatal education, and connections to community services
• Algoma Public Health will continue providing prenatal education through select EarlyON locations while supporting community awareness and capacity-building efforts through a range of education and support options, including virtual resources.
• No change to eligibility or cost for families

In addition, Community Action for Prenatal and Child Health Program (CAPCHP) initiatives are active across Algoma, supporting:

• Healthy pregnancies
• Breastfeeding
• Parenting skills
• Early child development

“These changes are about making it easier for families to find support where they already feel comfortable,” said Ali Juma, CEO, Algoma Family Services. “By working together through EarlyON centres, Algoma Public Health, and community partners, we’re strengthening how prenatal and early childhood supports are delivered across Algoma.”

Community partners will continue working together to monitor access, respond to local needs, and ensure families across Algoma can connect with prenatal and early childhood supports early and often.
