Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg (Pic Mobert FN) – Fire Ban

July 14, 2026
By order of the Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg Chief and Council, effective immediately, no outdoor burning is allowed.

The region’s Forest Fire Danger Ratingis high. There is one active forest fire East of Netmizaaggamig, WAW014, near Depew River. At the time of this memo, its size is 12.5ha, and the status report is being held. With the lack of precipitation in Netmizaaggamig Aki (land), there is a greater threat of forest fires, which pose an increasing risk of becoming uncontrollable.

Fire Ban Restrictions
Effective immediately, the following are prohibited throughout Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg:

  • All open-air burning, including:
    • Campfires
    • Bonfires
    • Brush burning
    • Burning of leaves, grass, or yard waste
    • Burn barrels
    • Outdoor incinerators (unless specifically approved)
  • All fireworks and pyrotechnics
  • Residents are responsible for ensuring cigarettes and smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of safely.
  • Anyone who causes a fire through negligence may be held responsible for suppression costs and may face enforcement under applicable Band laws, provincial legislation, or the Criminal Code where appropriate.
  • The fire ban will remain in effect until officially lifted by Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg.

No person shall ignite, maintain, or allow any open fire within the boundaries of Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg while this Fire Ban remains in effect. This includes campfires, bonfires, burn barrels, brush burning, and the discharge of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices.
