Northeast Region

There were 12 wildland fires confirmed in the Northeast Region today:

  • Cochrane 8 (COC008) is 153 hectares and is located along Rocksand River, approximately 72 kilometres northwest of Moshikopaw Lake. The fire is being observed.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009) is 0.5 of a hectare and is located along Hill River, approximately 20 kilometres northwest of Sticky Lake. The fire is being observed.
  • Cochrane 10 (COC010) and Cochrane 11 (COC011) are located south of the East Akandamo river, approximately 12 kilometres southwest of Round Lake. The two fires measure 9 and 8 hectares, respectively, and are being observed.
  • Cochrane 12 (COC012) is 93 hectares and is located approximately 23 kilometres southwest of Round Lake. The fire is being observed.
  • Cochrane 13 (COC013) is 1 hectare and is located approximately 24 kilometres west of the Severn River, and 70 kilometres southwest of Fort Severn. The fire is being observed.
  • Cochrane 14 (COC014) is 19 hectares and is located approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Mistahayo Lake. The fire is being observed.
  • Cochrane 15 (COC015) is 1.5 hectares and is located approximately 75 kilometres south of Fort Severn, and 52 kilometres east of the Severn River. The fire is being observed.
  • Cochrane 16 (COC016) is 0.5 of a hectare and is located approximately 38 kilometres southwest of Fort Severn. The fire is being observed.
  • Timmins 14 (TIM014) is 0.1 of a hectare and is located along the southern shore of Lake Abitibi, 4.5 kilometres northeast of Trollope Lake. The fire is being held.
  • Cochrane 17 (COC017) is 20 hectares and is located approximately 8 kilometres north of Lake Abitibi, and 35 kilometres west of the Quebec border. The fire is not under control.
  • Timmins 15 (TIM015) is 0.5 of a hectare and is located approximately 2 kilometres north of Southbear Lake, and 13 kilometres south of Highway 560. The fire is not under control.

At the time of this update, there are 14 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. Of those fires, 2 are not under control, 1 is being held, 1 is under control and 10 are being observed.

Northwest Region

One additional fire was confirmed in the evening hours of June 27, following the previous update.

  • Sioux Lookout 36 (SLK036) is located approximately 27.0 kilometres west of Highway 599, near Greenlee Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is not under control.

Nine new wildland fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by the evening of June 28.

  • Nipigon 19 (NIP019) is located approximately 34.0 kilometres northeast of Ogoki Lake, near Winslow Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is being observed
  • Nipigon 20 (NIP020) is located approximately 2.5 kilometres north of Wedlock Road, north of Hindson Lake. The 0.3-hectare fire is not under control.
  • Red Lake 20 (RED020) is located approximately in the northeast side of Opasquia Provincial Park, north of Pasateko Lake. The 10.0-hectare fire is not under control.
  • Sioux Lookout 37 (SLK037) is located on Thistle Island, between Zionz Lake and Fawcett Lake. The 0.1-hectare fire is being held.
  • Sioux Lookout 38 (SLK038) and Sioux Lookout 39 (SLK039) are located approximately 10.0 kilometres southeast of Bearskin Lake. The two fires measure 125.0 and 0.6 hectares, respectively, and are not under control.
  • Sioux Lookout 40 (SLK040) is located approximately 10.0 kilometres south of Pineimuta Lake, south of Pineimuta River. The 3.0-hectare fire is not under control.
  • Sioux Lookout 41 (SLK041) is located approximately 13.0 kilometres west of Assin Lake, south of Fennel Lake. The 25.0-hectare fire is not under control.
  • Sioux Lookout 42 (SLK042) is located approximately 4.0 kilometres south of Obabigan Lake and Pineimuta River confluence. The 2.5-hectare fire is being observed.

At the time of this update there are 61 active wildland fires in the Northwest Region. Of these fires, 36 are not under control, 3 are being held, 5 are under control and 17 are being observed. Seven fires were called out today.

Fires of note

Kasabonika Lake First Nation Complex
  • Nipigon 12 (NIP012) is located approximately 20.0 kilometres west of Kasabonika Lake First Nation and currently measuring 1,100 hectares.
    • Minimal fire activity was observed today.
  • Nipigon 16 (NIP016) is located approximately 6.0 kilometres south of Kasabonika Lake First Nation Airport and currently measuring 1,000 hectares.
    • Aerial suppression using CL-415 waterbombers was carried out throughout the day.
    • There are currently 3 FireRanger crews assigned to the fire.
  • There are 4 additional fires in the area surrounding Kasabonika Lake First Nation.
    • Nipigon 13 (NIP013) is not under control at 324.0 hectares
    • Nipigon 14 (NIP014) is not under control at 2.0 hectares
    • Nipigon 15 (NIP015) is not under control at 0.1 hectares.
    • Nipigon 17 (NIP017) is being held at 0.7 hectares.
Sioux Lookout 21 – Wunnumin Lake First Nation
  • Sioux Lookout 21 (SLK021) is currently measuring 357.0 hectares and is not under control.
  • The fire is approximately 9.0 kilometres south of the Wunnumin Lake First Nation Airport.
  • Aerial suppression using CL-415 waterbombers was carried out throughout the weekend.
  • FireRanger crews made excellent progress today with minimal growth observed on the fire perimeter.
